Prague considers postponement of rent payments for entrepreneurs

3/14/2020

The City of Prague is responding to the current restrictions and government regulations due to the coronavirus outbreak that have had a major impact on entrepreneurs and small businesses in Prague. City Councilor Jan Chabr is going to put forward a postponement of rent payments for the duration of the emergency. The rent could be waived completely in certain segments.

“Health comes first. However, we should not turn our back on entrepreneurs who had had no chance to brace for the crisis. We will make every effort to alleviate the situation for them,” says Jiří Pospíšil, chairman of TOP 09 party in Prague.

“We have drawn up measures to prevent fatal consequences of the current health crisis on business in the city. At the next session of city authorities, I am going to put forward a postponement of rent payments for the duration of the quarantine,” says Jan Chabr, City Councilor in charge of municipal asset management. “We would like to waive the rent altogether in some segments for the duration of the extraordinary measures. We are going to discuss this further,”adds Chabr.

“Once the government regulation expires, we will assess the situation and present new policy measures to support entrepreneurs and small businesses. We believe that other cities, too, could promptly adopt such measures and we would like to inspire them by our proposal,” concludes Jiří Pospíšil.
