Prague councillors have entrusted the Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) with the preparation of the map application, which should, in cooperation with other city institutions, compile available information on planned repairs and construction that will affect the traffic situation in the city. The aim is to create a clear digital tool that will enable the capital to plan construction works and traffic closures more efficiently and minimise their impact on traffic quality.

Traffic in the capital city is significantly affected by construction activities, whether it is new construction, upgrading or modification of existing transport and technical infrastructure. The implementers of construction works are both municipal institutions, municipal districts and public or private entities.

Currently, there are several sub-databases that track upcoming construction projects with an impact on transport in the city. At the moment, however, there is no common tool that brings all the information together in one place. The new mapping application will help the joint coordination of all actors, especially in the longer term, when it will be easier to coordinate, for example, the repair of a water main with the installation of a fibre optic network, which would require the pavement to be dug up again after two years.

The basis of the sharing system will be the creation of a common data standard for construction plans, investment actions and repairs in public space and for municipal entities. In the future, the plan is to link it with data on construction works from the Central Bohemia Region geoportal, especially at the interface between the two regions that affect traffic in the capital. The application should be populated with the first data as early as August 2024.
