Prague to expand capacity of primary school for visually impaired as part of reconstruction

5/14/2024

the Prague City Council approved a public contract for the complete reconstruction of the building and roof of the ZRAK Primary School and Kindergarten on náměstí Míru in Prague 2 and also decided to launch a tender procedure for the contract after the legal conditions are met. The reconstruction of the school, which is designed for pupils with visual impairments, includes, for example, the creation of 8 new classrooms, 3 classrooms for teachers and a study room. This will increase the existing capacity by at least 30 pupils with special education needs. The estimated value of the public contract is CZK 34,300,000 excluding VAT.

The intention of the capital city is to reconstruct the fifth floor of the building in Prague 2, which currently houses a boarding school for pupils, which includes 12 rooms with facilities and a nursery. However, the capacity is oversized and the rooms are empty. New classrooms have been designed to replace part of the dormitory.

There are to be 8 new classrooms and 3 classrooms for teachers. The reconstruction of the premises will increase the capacity by at least 30 pupils with special education needs. At the same time, there will be meeting rooms and working facilities for about 8 teachers and 8 teaching assistants. The existing boarding house will be partially preserved with a capacity of 5 rooms and facilities. Hygiene facilities will then be built to current standards.

The lift will also be upgraded and works related to the construction of new electrical or air conditioning systems will be carried out. The estimated value of the public contract is CZK 34 300 000 excluding VAT.
