Over the first year in office, the ruling coalition in Prague assigned approximately 300 new public housing lease contracts. It has also aligned the public housing policy with applicable laws. By doing so, the coalition is delivering on its manifesto in which it pledged to address the housing availability crisis and to help families with children and elderly people move away from temporary residence facilities.

In the first year, the city has accommodated 101 new tenants who work in professions that are key for the city, such as firefighters and teachers. The city has also signed 65 lease agreements with elderly people, rented 49 social apartments, and 26 apartments to people with disabilities. 52 other public flats have been rented in a tender.

The greatest success has been moving 19 senior citizens from inadequate temporary shelters to standard housing. The city also appreciates cooperation with individual district authorities.

A key step to implementing a reasonable public housing policy was to align the lease regulations with applicable legislation. An inspection by the Ministry of Interior in autumn 2018 discovered as many as 33 non-compliant provisions. New regulations that the City Council approved in march introduce a transparent point-based system for people in distress, accentuate cooperation with city districts, and link housing to social services. There is now a single transparent procedure.
