The Prague City Assembly authorized the City Council to participate in any auctions held by Czech Post. The Czech Post is expected to sell some of its assets in Prague, including its current headquarters in Jindřišská Street and a post office building in Moravská Street. Prague has repeatedly expressed interest in negotiating on a direct purchase of these assets, and according to the latest reports, the Czech Post has agreed not to auction them. The decision by the City Assembly is therefore only a precautionary measure in case the Post changes its mind.
In the previous election period, Prague acquired post office buildings in Durychova Street and Sofijské Náměstí Square from the Czech Post. Prague would like to continue in this fashion to acquire other assets through direct sales at the usual price based on an expert opinion.
“We believe that a direct sale of Czech Post’s property in Prague is in the public interest. For now, we would like to focus on the post office buildings in Jindřišská Street, Moravská Street, and Na Strži Street. Nevertheless, the City Assembly approved a policy in case the Post decides to sell some assets in auction. The policy will enable Prague to participate in the auction upon approval by the Council alone, as the Assembly does not convene in the summer months,” Councilor Adam Zábranský explained.
