Jana Želivského Street and its vicinity in Žižkov district is to undergo a major renovation of the sewer, water, and gas lines, which will require significant traffic restrictions throughout the year. The first phase of the works will begin on January 14 and will last until February 20. A bypass route will lead through Olšanská, Prokopova, Rokycanova, and Koněvova streets. Some parts of the local water system are more than a century old and suffer from frequent leaks. The investor of the project is the Prague Water Management Company.
This major construction project was discussed for over a year with all the authorities concerned, including the boroughs. The construction is divided into 12 phases so that the impact on the area and traffic disturbance is minimized, although road traffic is anyhow going to be significantly restricted throughout the year 2023. The project will require extensive transport engineering measures impacting four districts - Prague 2, Prague 3, Prague 9, and Prague 10.
