Běchovice to be protected from Prague Ring Road traffic noise by high earth mounds

10/31/2022

Prague city councilors adopted an urban landscape architectural study for protective earth mounds in Běchovice. The earth mounds that will be tens of meters high will protect the residential area from the negative effects of the construction of the Prague Ring Road No. 511, 510 and the relocation of the I/12 road.

People living in the Běchovice - Nová Dubeč residential area near the planned Prague ring road need not worry about the negative effects of its construction. The residential area will be protected from the busy road by earth mounds up to 45 meters high.

The protective mound covered with greenery will be built on land that was previously acquired for this purpose by the City of Prague and the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD). The area of the mounds on the municipal land will be 17.7 hectares and 12.6 hectares on land owned by ŘSD.

The urban landscaping and architectural study for the mounds was drawn up by SATRA. The authors of the study recommend building the earth mounds and plant greenery first, before launching the road construction. Prague’s Investment Department will now coordinate the preparations including the necessary studies and surveys for the EIA procedure and project documentation for the zoning procedure.
