The winner of an open international architectural and landscaping competition for a new design of public areas at the Prague Marketplace has been announced. It is Prague-based Studio Perspektiv of architects Ján Antal and Martin Stára. Their design was selected by an international jury among eighteen competition entries from nine countries around the world. Their choice was confirmed by the City Council at its Monday’s session.
What the jury appreciated most about the winning proposal, was a clear approach to the solution, which stands out over other projects, not only as regards urban landscaping, but also by addressing issues such as climate change and the heat island phenomenon. The jury also highlighted the choice of a wide, diverse and appropriate range of plants and interconnection of the Marketplace with its vicinity.
