The new square, which is to be built in the area between the existing bus station and Na Žertvách Street in Prague 8 by 2025, will become a great example of a modern solution of an inner-city public space. However, Palmovka will remain an important junction for pedestrians and transit passengers, where flows of people will be designed with respect to easy navigation and maximum safety. The investor, which is the City of Prague, expects the budget for the new square at Palmovka to reach CZK 80 million.

An important part of the project will be greenery and water features creating an enjoyable microclimate. Seemingly inconspicuous elements in the spirit of the specific poetics of Bohumil Hrabal’s work will remind pedestrians of the author after whom the square is to be named.

“Thanks to a very sensitive solution, the new square will create a refined space for passengers, for people to socialize and for kids to play. The place will offer enjoyable experience all year round, thanks to a green canopy of foliage as well as nice cafés and other roofed spaces. Everything will have natural, human proportions with a number of surprising, playful elements referring to Bohumil Hrabal,” says City Councilor Jan Chabr who is responsible for municipal asset management.
