The Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) has drawn up a new housing development plan. The strategy focuses on the construction of financially accessible, good-quality homes, expansion of the city’s housing base as well as on collaboration with major players in this area. The document envisages new construction in abandoned brownfields as well as on suitable municipal land. The Housing Development Strategy replaces the city’s 2004 housing concept. The new document focuses on the current needs of the expanding city and aims to improve financial accessibility of housing in Prague.

The housing situation in Prague has long been heading in an undesirable direction. That is why the Prague City Council asked IPR to draw up a new strategy to replace the currently applicable Housing Policy Concept dating from 2004. The strategy addresses five priority areas including construction of financially accessible homes, expansion and improvement of the city’s housing base, provision of sustainable housing to specific groups of citizens, improving the attractiveness of living anywhere in Prague, and collaboration with key actors.
