The operations center of Prague’s Municipal Technology Company (THMP) received 22,500 reports of malfunction, failure or other types of incidents concerning the city’s technical infrastructure last year. This includes nearly 135 thousand streetlamps, lighting of monuments, public and tower clocks, as well as the city’s surveillance system and some traffic technologies. The biggest number of reports - around 9000 - came from citizens and another thousand from police officers. THMP employees discovered more than 5.5 thousand incidents during preventive maintenance activities.

The company receives incident reports and requests by phone, e-mail or through a mobile app. According to City Councilor Jan Chabr who is responsible for municipal asset management, street light failure reporting should by highly automated in the future and the number of primary reports from citizens should diminish.

“We have started equipping street lighting switchboards with remote access and diagnostic capabilities, so that we can monitor the status in real time and control lighting centrally. In the future, we will be able to see not only entire streets but individual masts, bulbs, and other technologies,” explains Jan Chabr, adding that the first 200 control units have already been installed and the entire network should be covered by the end of the year.
