For the first time ever, the City of Prague has made revitalisation of brownfields a priority. The City Council has tasked the City Planning and Development Institute with drawing up a methodology to foster conceptual and faster transformation of abandoned estates.

The area of 11 largest brownfields in the wider Prague city centre could provide housing for approximately 154 000 citizens and 212 000 jobs. At the moment, an analysis is in progress. Once the analysis has been disclosed, any developer, citizen or public administration officer will be able to check the transformation status of each brownfield area.

Of the 11 largest transformation areas, the most advanced development can be seen in Smíchov, Holešovice-Bubny, Žižkov Cargo Station, and Rohanský Island. The aim is to enable investors to apply for a zoning permit for planned construction by 2020 at the latest.

Some of the most closely watched locations for development include: Na Hutích, Prague-Kyje, Komořany, the District Centre at Háje underground station, the vicinity of Roztyly underground station, Ďáblice housing estate, and the vicinity of the planned line D underground stations Písnice, Libuš (Kamýk) and Krč Hospital.
