Prague 6, Troja and Prague 8 districts to be connected by a funicular in five years. Prague City Assembly has approved an investment plan to build the funicular for an estimated CZK 1.5 billion. A 2.5-kilometer ride across the river from Podbaba to Bohnice with an elevation of 100 meters will take just seven minutes.
The city funicular with two terminal stations and one stop will connect the existing bus, tram, and train stop in Podbaba with Bohnice via Podhoří in Prague-Troja district. The new line will shorten travel between Prague 6 and Prague 8 while improving access to the recreational zone and the Prague ZOO on the right bank of Vltava river. The fully obstacle-free transport system will operate cabs for 35 passengers in 1-minute intervals. The capacity will be configured for 2,000 passengers per hour in each direction, which equals a tram line with a service every 4 minutes. The technical maximum will be 6,000 passengers per hour.
