New City Hall of Prague 4 on the site of the former Na Strži post office

Prague is planning a significant change in the area of urban infrastructure. The building of the former Na Strži post office, which the capital bought from the Czech Post for CZK 425 million last year, is to be replaced by a modern new building. It should serve not only as the headquarters of Prague 4's town hall, but also offer space for other functions such as shops, offices, apartments and a post office. This intention was confirmed by the mayor of Prague 4, Ondřej Kubín (ODS), and the deputy mayor, Petr Hlaváček (STAN).

The current seat of the Prague 4 Town Hall is located in the rented premises of the clinic near the Budějovická metro station. The 35-year lease for CZK 1.8 billion has been the subject of long-standing criticism among opposition councillors, mainly because of its high costs and the contract's non-cancellability. Mayor Kubín admits that any change in the location of City Hall would have to be approved by city councillors and would require an agreement with the current owner of the Budějovická building.

However, the technical condition of the 1984 Na Strži post office building does not allow its reconstruction for the needs of the town hall. Therefore, the city and the district are considering demolition and construction of a new multifunctional building.

According to Deputy Minister Hlaváček, the project will be managed by the Prague Development Company (PDS), which specializes in the preparation of urban buildings. Kubín estimates that the eventual move of the town hall to the new building could take place in 10 to 12 years at the earliest.

The planned new building will serve not only the needs of the office, but also the residents of Prague 4. The project envisages the preservation of the Czech Post office, commercial space, offices and residential units. Emphasis will be placed on modern architecture and energy efficiency.
