At its meeting on 14 January 2025, the Prague City Council discussed a key project concerning the improvement of transport services in the locality of Holešovice - Bubny - Zátory. It concerns the construction of the northern vestibule of the Vltavská metro station, which should facilitate public transport accessibility for the newly emerging district with a capacity of up to 25,000 inhabitants. This project is part of the long-term development strategy of the area concerned and represents a key investment for its transport infrastructure.
The Holešovice - Bubny - Zátory area is undergoing a transformation into a modern urban district combining residential, commercial and public functions. The planned urban change is based on the Bubny - Zátory Spatial Study approved in 2020. The study emphasises the priority role of public transport in ensuring the mobility of residents. The new vestibule should shorten access routes to the metro and create a more convenient connection between the northern part of the district and the city centre.
The idea of building the northern vestibule of the Vltavská metro station dates back to its design in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Already then, the possibility of its realisation was preliminarily created. However, due to the declining importance of the railway station Prague - Bubny and sufficient tram service, it was never completed. Now this project is coming back to the fore as a key construction for the development of the area.
The Prague City Council approved the incorporation of the project into the spatial planning documents and documentation, thus creating the legislative prerequisites for its implementation. At the same time it imposed several tasks:
- To the City Hall of the Capital City of Prague. Prague City Hall (UZR Department): to ensure the incorporation of the project into planning documents.
- To the Institute of Planning and Development (IPR): to cooperate in the preparation of the project and its implementation.
- To the Transport Company of the Capital City of Prague: to prepare a feasibility study for the north lobby with a completion date of 30 June 2025.
The northern vestibule was previously classified as a publicly beneficial building under the current Prague City Master Plan and its metropolitan version. This construction will not only reduce travel times for residents of the new district, but will also contribute to better transport services for the entire area. The Bubny - Zátory area is one of the largest transformation areas in Prague. The project represents a major step towards the creation of a modern urban district that combines sustainable architecture, public space and good transport accessibility. The construction of the northern vestibule of the Vltavská metro is a key part of these changes and will serve as a transport hub connecting metro, tram and rail transport.
