The Prague City Council approved the provision of a special-purpose investment subsidy of CZK 175 million to the Railway Administration for the implementation of the Bubny Underpass. This project is a key part of the modernisation of the railway line between Bubny and Výstaviště and the urban development associated with the future Vltava Philharmonic.
The Bubny Underpass includes the construction of bridge structures and access infrastructure to the new Philharmonic Hall. The project is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2025, with further modifications by mid-2026. The Railway Administration will ensure the implementation of the project in accordance with the Public Procurement Act.
The project strengthens the connection of cultural and transport points in the area and underlines the development of this part of the metropolis. The Vltavská Philharmonic, planned for the Vltavská site at the interface between the Letná district and the brownfield site of the former Bubny freight station, will become an important cultural centre. Its location in the wider city centre and close to the Vltavská metro station ensures excellent transport accessibility.
The broader project also includes the modernisation of the Prague-Bubny station, the double-tracking of the line over a length of approximately 1.3 kilometres, its electrification and the construction of a new Prague-Výstaviště stop. This modernisation is crucial for the future railway connection between Prague and Václav Havel Airport.
The Bubny underpass is designed to enable the future relocation of the tram line at the Vltavská junction. The tram line will not run along the current route on the Bubenský nábřeží embankment, but the new trams will run on a new wide underpass, which will also serve as a convenient pedestrian connection between the tram stop on Vltavská Street and Argentinská Street.
This project represents a significant investment in Prague's infrastructure that will support cultural and transport connectivity in the area and contribute to the overall development of the city.
