Housing in a city apartment will become more affordable thanks to electronic auctions. The City Council today approved new rules that will allow interested parties to compete for apartment rentals in a transparent online system. For now, the auctions will focus on flats that are not for social purposes.
The new system provides a simple and accessible way to get a council flat at market rent. Interested parties will have all the information conveniently available online, including a detailed description of the apartments on offer and the conditions of participation. The winner of the auction will be determined by the highest rent offered.
The first electronic auction is expected to take place in December this year. Prague is thus following the proven practice of several municipalities and at the same time responding to the growing demand for urban housing.
