the Prague City Council approved the transfer of the ownership of part of the bridge building to the Statutory City of Mladá Boleslav free of charge. The footbridge connected Nádražní and Dobříšská streets via Smíchovské nádraží and served the general public until October 2023, after which it was dismantled and is now out of use. The intention still needs to be approved by the City Council. Prague.
The owner of the footbridge is still the capital city and its manager is the Technical Administration of Communications of the capital city. Prague. After its removal last year, there is no further use for the footbridge structure, so from the point of view of its architectural value it was appropriate to find a future use for it instead of costly disposal.
Subsequently, the Statutory City of Mladá Boleslav expressed interest in using this technical monument for the project of a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the Jizera River, for which reason it was necessary to settle the matter in terms of property rights. Prague councillors have now approved the conclusion of a contract on the free transfer of ownership of part of the bridge to the Statutory City of Mladá Boleslav. The same document was already approved by the Mladá Boleslav City Council at the end of April this year.
The footbridge at its original location in Smíchov measured 163.7 metres, the length of the part prepared for the town of Mladá Boleslav is 110.9 metres.
The bridge structure over the Smíchov railway track connecting Dobříšská road near the Křížová stop with Nádražní street in the area between the Plzeňka and Smíchovské nádraží tram stops was permanently closed on 9 October 2023. It was subsequently dismantled and divided into parts.
The reason for the removal was the need to make way for new construction. Next door, the capital is preparing a project for a central transport hub, Terminal Smíchov, which will subsequently create a new bridge.
The footbridge over the Prague-Smíchov railway station was built between 1929 and 1930. Its construction was made by the Prague Bridge Factory - Českomoravská Kolben Daněk. In 1953, the access staircase to the footbridge on the Smíchov side was moved by about 10 metres and the footbridge was extended by the same length. Between April and October 1974, during the first major reconstruction, the monolithic bridge deck was replaced with a prefabricated one.
The next reconstruction of the footbridge took place in 2002, in connection with the construction of the City Ring Road, it was shortened on the Radlice side by 45.5 metres and instead of stairs it was connected to the new pavements at grade. In 2007, a middle staircase was added to the platforms of the Praha-Smíchov North Platform.
