Prague City Council has approved an intent to carry out a public contract for “Utilization and development of Štvanice Island”. The decision follows a two-round competition for “Utilization and Development Concept for Štvanice Island in Prague” that took place in 2013. One of the awarded competitors is now to be offered a contract. The project is expected to be delivered between 2020 and 2022 and estimated to cost approximately 35 million crowns without VAT. / 13 January 2020

The winning bidder will be expected to draw up a detailed concept study of the island including its links to neighboring districts, and to prepare comprehensive project documentation for the first stage of the makeover of the area.

In the meantime, some smaller-scale projects are in progress or planned to be implemented. In 2018, Prague successfully completed an architectural competition for a footbridge over Štvanice Island joining Holešovice and Karlín districts. The footbridge is expected to improve accessibility of the island. Meanwhile, repairs of the Negrelli Viaduct are underway. Other projects to be coordinated with the Štvanice initiative include repairs of Hlávkův Bridge, refurbishment of Fuchs Café and landscaping works.
