Prague city councillors approved the possibility of preserving and relocating the Výtoňský Bridge. The historic steel structure will be moved to a new location in the south of the metropolis if a new three-track railway bridge is built. The proposal also includes the reconstruction and return of the original Art Nouveau elements.

The railroad bridge's current three double-track steel truss arches were installed in 1901, replacing the original single-track structure of five trapezoidal spans built in 1871. At the time of the replacement, a wave of public protests rose against the new bridge. Over time, the people of Prague accepted the arch bridge and the initially unpopular structure was later declared a monument. Prague has now decided on its further use as a link between Modřany and Chuchle for pedestrians and cyclists.

The original structure will be moved 6.4 km upstream to Modřany, where it will serve as a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists. First, however, the bridge will have to be moved using pontoons. The structure will have to be partially submerged where it will undercut the Barrandovský and Dvorecký bridges. It will then have to be blasted and repaired on the left bank below the Modřanský weir. The original Art Nouveau elements, which were removed for electrification, will also return to the bridge. Subsequently, the bridge will be rebuilt in the place where the ferry runs today, thus connecting Chuchle and Modřany. The load on the bridge as a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists will be an order of magnitude less than in the case of railway traffic.
