Prague has approved a draft of new building regulations. They will comply with the new Building Act

6/25/2024

The Council of the Capital City of Prague The changes were necessary to comply with the new building law. The Prague Building Regulations will enter into force simultaneously with the new Building Act and the national decree on building requirements (Decree No. 146/2024 Coll.), i.e. on 1 July 2024. The new municipal building regulations guarantee continuity with the previous version of the Prague Building Regulations and at the same time adapt to the new wording of the Building Act.
As the effectiveness of the Prague Building Regulations has proven itself over the past 10 years, other regional cities have also shown interest in their building regulations. The new system, which comes with the entry into force of the new Building Act, has now generated a requirement to amend the Prague Building Regulations. To some extent, however, it has been inspired by them.
The amendment to the Building Act from 1 July changes the conditions under which Czech cities can develop. However, it is aimed primarily at small municipalities, and is in many ways unsatisfactory for large cities. "The power for Prague in the form of municipal building regulations is absolutely crucial for us and other large Czech cities," says the director of the Institute of Planning and Development of the capital city of Prague. Ondřej Boháč is the director of Prague's Department of Planning and Development.
Experts from Prague, Brno and Ostrava worked together on the draft of the city building regulations, i.e. from the cities that are allowed by the amendment to the Building Act to deviate from the uniform decree of the Ministry for Regional Development of the Czech Republic.
