The Prague City Hall could in the future be housed in the Komerční banka building on Wenceslas Square. The capital is currently negotiating the purchase of this building with its owner, Komerční banka, which owns it through its subsidiary VN 42, s.r.o. Officials from the Škoda Palace could move here.
"The acquisition of the building on Wenceslas Square is advantageous for the municipality for several reasons. The key benefit is financial - instead of renting the costly Škodovo Palace, Prague's agenda will be managed in its own premises. The capital will also gain premises that are more suitable for its operations, including facilities. It will also be possible to bring other offices of the City Hall "under one roof". And of course, the location in the very centre of Prague, close to three metro lines, is also a plus, which will be appreciated by all those Prague citizens who come into contact with the municipal office. The bottom line is that this is an excellent solution and I believe that the transaction will be completed," says Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda.
In September 2023, Komerční banka decided to pursue the sale of its company VN 42, which owns the Komerční banka building at 42 Wenceslas Square and leases it to Komerční banka and other tenants. On 12 March 2024, Komerční banka, through Knight Frank, spol. s r.o., invited interested parties to submit offers for the purchase of VN 42. After evaluating the bids received, the Board of Komerční banka decided to start negotiations on the terms of a possible future sale with the best bidder, the City of Prague. The bank aims to complete the negotiations and close the sale in the second quarter of this year. However, no commitment has yet been set.
