In the second half of January 2024, the long-prepared transformation of the House of the Passion on the border of the New World and Hradčany into the headquarters of the Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century will begin. The reconstruction should be completed in exactly one year.
In 2023, the City of Prague has announced the opening of the new building. Prague held a competition for the selection of a construction company, which was won by Metrostav's subsidiary Subterra. The reconstruction of the House of Pážat into the headquarters of the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century was approved by the Prague City Council. The Subterra company took over the building on 18 January 2024 and the works should be completed in early 2025. Unfortunately, the last reconstruction carried out in the 1970s only preserved the load-bearing masonry and a trio of vaults, but we believe that we will be able to restore the key internal links and awaken the spirit of the house," added architect Tomáš Hradečný from the IXA building studio, which prepared the construction documentation.
The exhibition projects will involve not only the rooms on the ground floor of the House of the Pážat, but also other spaces such as the courtyard, garden and attic. On the first floor there will be a research room, a library, and above all a large hall where conferences, seminars, concerts, occasional exhibitions and events for schools will be held.
