The capital city sees the future of the Karlín Barracks in a combined use for the functions of an educational facility, a science and technology park, a cultural and social centre, urban housing for university students, a centre for innovative companies or a shared working environment. He wants to discuss the plans for their revitalisation with the conservationists and the current operator.
The Karlín Barracks building was registered as Prague's property last week following a swap with the state in which Prague acquired the building in Hybernská Street and other land in exchange for a total of 46 plots and 10 buildings on the grounds of the Bulovka University Hospital.
"Thanks to its location, the former military barracks building is of strategic importance for the development of the entire locality and the connection of Karlín to the centre of Prague. Another important step towards the revitalisation of the area is the restoration and glazing of the neighbouring Negrelli Viaduct, where we are currently preparing a test run," says Petr Hlaváček, Deputy Mayor for Territorial and Strategic Development.
The Council of the Capital City. At Monday's meeting, the Prague City Council approved a follow-up plan in which it ordered the city's contributory organisation, the Prague Development Company, to prepare an analysis of the usability of the Karlín Barracks by the end of September 2024.
"The Karlín Barracks are also strategic for the capital city in terms of the opportunities they can provide to the public. In order to make a responsible decision about the further use of this building, it is necessary to examine which types of operations the building is suitable for, both in terms of its layout and its current technical and operational condition," says Adam Zábranský, Councillor for Property, Transparency and Legislation.
