Prague’s Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) drew up a report based on an analysis and forecast of the population development, assessing the current situation and offering forecast for future needs up to 2050. IPR will refresh the study every year with new data. Together with inputs from the Prague City Council, the document will inform policy decisions.

The main results of the analysis can be divided into three areas: population forecast, school capacity needs, and other public amenities. The population forecast assumes that Prague can expect a significant population growth in the future. According to the population curve, the number of inhabitants is expected to increase by almost 400,000 to 1.67 million by 2050 (31% growth). From the demographic point of view, a dramatic increase in the number of children and senior citizens can be expected. The steepest increases can be expected in areas designated for new residential housing construction.

As regards other public amenities, an increased load on GP surgeries was noted across all age groups. The city’s offering of local cultural events, accessible parks, playgrounds, and public sports facilities was rated as good.

The full text of the study with an analysis of all the data mentioned can be found on the IPR Prague website.
