City of Prague to sponsor geothermal boreholes for a new school in Šeberov with 14 million CZK

8/16/2023

Prague will provide funding for the construction of a new elementary school in Šeberov district. Specifically, Prague will provide 14 million CZK to finance geothermal boreholes and the technology for ground/water heat pumps.

The city district of Prague-Šeberov has long been faced with an acute shortage of classrooms, so the local authority decided to build a new school several years ago. To save heating costs over the long term, it was eventually decided to implement ground/water heat pumps that had not been part of the original project. Geothermal boreholes should provide an environmentally friendly and efficient source of heat. A project for the heating system has been drawn up and a public tender is currently underway to find a supplier of the heat pumps and other technology.

The construction of the school located between the districts of Šeberov and Hrnčíře on a plot of land owned by the city began on September 16, 2022. After completion at the beginning of 2025, the modern building will offer 14 main classrooms, labs, a spacious lunchroom with a kitchen, facilities for teachers and an adjacent gym. The construction project envisaged a budget of CZK 477 million including VAT.
