The restoration of the Industrial Palace has moved to another key phase these days, as the construction of the burned-down left wing will continue upward. This crucial milestone in the restoration of the 1891 building, so eagerly awaited by Prague citizens and visitors since 2008, marks the beginning of a new era of one of the most iconic historic monuments in Prague. The first step of the new phase will be to erect a steel structure on the floor plan of the left wing that was destroyed by fire. The structure was made by Excon according to the original engineering drawings. Construction works on the Industrial Palace, which began in February last year, continue as planned, including the central hall and the right wing.
Once the construction and renovation works are completed in 2025, the Industrial Palace will offer one of the largest indoor event premises in Central Europe, with top facilities to accommodate even the most demanding ideas how to address customers or the general public.
“This is a unique reconstruction in terms of scale and technology. The building is now regaining its original height. A meticulous reconstruction with the participation of expert restorers goes as far as possible, always respecting the historical character of the building to the maximum extent. Many experts on old, no longer practiced crafts, such as stained-glass windows or decorative stucco elements, have also been invited to participate. It is a joy to see the construction proceed smoothly and the fervor of all those involved in this project. The Industrial Palace represents a monumental entrance gate to Stromovka Park. If everything goes to the plan, the palace will reopen to the public before the end of the current election period. We are thankful to Pavel Vyhnánek, a former Prague Deputy Mayor for Finance, for initiating the reconstruction,” says Adam Zábranský, Prague City Councilor responsible for the asset management, transparency, and legislation agendas.
