The Letňany underground station was built in 2008 and still ends in the fields. However, this could change, as the Prague City Hall has plans to utilize unused city- and state-owned land in the area. A new innovative district could be erected at the underground station, according to a zoning study currently being drawn up by Prague’s Institute of Planning and Development (IPR). The aim of the study is to design a neighborhood that would be environmentally friendly, self-sufficient in many respects and would satisfy the needs of local inhabitants. IPR has invited the public to participate and help the urban planners design the new district.

The vast Letňany-Kbely development area has long been overlooked. A large part of the area comprises municipal and state-owned land with excellent transport connections to the rest of the city.
