The ruling coalition and the opposition in Prague’s City Assembly including the Pirate Party, SPOLU, STAN, Praha Sobě and ANO expressed their support for a general repair of the Výtoň railway bridge using modern technologies while preserving the maximum of the historic character, substance and spirit of the structure known for its typical rivetted iron arches spanning Vltava River. The Prague City Assembly understands the indispensability of the Výtoň bridge for railway traffic, the need to add another track to the current two to increase its capacity and to build a new stop at Výtoň, all with regard to the development of the city over the next decade.
Members of the assembly recognize the value of the existing bridge as part of the cityscape as an exceptional cultural and technical monument. However, they understand that its fate is not in the hands of the City of Prague. Ultimately, the final decision about the future of the bridge rests with the central authorities - the Ministry of Transport, the Railway Administration, the Ministry of Culture, and the national heritage protection authorities.
