Prague takes an active approach to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. In addition to financial support, the city has allocated suitable accommodation facilities and is preparing information kiosks at railway stations and other places staffed with volunteers who would provide advice to refugees arriving to the country.
Prague is gathering all offers for accommodation both from individuals and from city districts and organizations. People who can provide accommodation in Prague can offer their premises using this online form: pomocukrajine-ubytovani.praha.eu. The information will be passed on to the Ministry of Interior which will allocate the premises to families fleeing Russian aggression. Offers for collective accommodation (20 or more rooms, ideally with meals), can be submitted on a website set up by the Refugee Facilities Administration of the Czech Ministry of Interior at: http://www.suz.cz/ubytovani-pro-ukrajinske-rodiny/. People can also offer individual accommodation in Prague and beyond at of the https://uprchlici-vitejte.cz/.
In addition, special kiosks will be set up to advise Ukrainian refugees who arrive in the capital city. “We are preparing information kiosks in the Ukrainian language to inform those who arrive at Prague railway stations. Should a stronger wave of refugees occur, we will activate a crisis plan and establish an Assistance Centre in the Municipal Library in collaboration with the fire brigade,” Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.
Prague’s Working Group for Migration will meet on Monday morning. Due to the current situation, it is mainly women, children and senior citizens who are seeking refuge across Europe. The group will discuss options to provide the necessary care, including crisis intervention, psychosocial assistance, medical assistance, and schooling.
