Prague councilors agreed to swap a plot of land in Košíře district in Prague 5 for another nearby. The move will enable an expansion of primary education capacities in the area, which are currently insufficient. At the same time, the city will erect a new school building for children with special educational needs.

“The capital city and its population have been growing, which leads to a lack of primary schooling capacities in some areas. Košíře district in Prague 5 is bound to become one of the worst affected in this respect. The city therefore proposed a solution, which was subsequently discussed with Prague 5. The district will acquire new facilities for the local Nepomucká Primary School in a nearby building in V Cibulkách Street with the possibility of an extension on neighboring plots of land,” says property councilor Jan Chabr.

“Ensuring sufficient capacity of primary schools is the responsibility of the districts, but the city administration is ready to help, and we will continue assisting with this task. After certain initial misunderstandings, negotiations with the local administration of Prague 5 took a positive turn and I believe that this will continue to be the case in the future. Children in Košíře do not deserve anything less,” says Vít Šimral, City Councilor for Education.

In addition, the city and the district will prepare a joint memorandum that will guarantee that the special school will have optimal conditions required for the education of pupils with special educational needs. Monday’s decision of the Prague Council has yet to be approved by the City Assembly.
