Prague launches construction of Štvanice Island footbridge joining Holešovice and Karlín districts

1/11/2022

The construction of a new footbridge across Vltava River, which will connect the dynamically developing city districts of Karlín and Holešovice with the island of Štvanice, has officially started today at a ceremony attended by officials from the capital city administration, city districts of Prague 7 and Prague 8 as well as representatives of the contractor. The five meters wide structure made of unique ultra-high-strength concrete is to be completed by spring 2023. This will significantly shorten travel between the two banks of the river for pedestrians and cyclists and will also improve access to the green part of Štvanice Island.

Construction of the new barrier-free connection, which will shorten the journey across the river for the inhabitants and visitors of Karlín and Žižkov districts on the one side and Holešovice on the other, officially started on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. The Štvanice Island footbridge, known also under the acronym HolKa, should be completed in 14 months. The construction will be carried out by Skanska, which won a public tender. The budget is 298 million crowns without VAT.
