The Supreme Court of the Czech Republic rejected an appeal lodged by the former tenant of the Prague Market in Holešovice district against the previous verdict by the Municipal Court in Prague which was in favor of the capital city. The ruling was delivered to Prague at end of last year, so the Market will stay under its administration and the city can carry on with further development of the compound.
Due to a protracted lawsuit with Delta Center, a.s., it has long been impossible to carry out any development projects at the Prague Market. However, many changes have been made over the past two years. Prague commissioned two conceptual documents for further development of the Prague Market compound, the Economic Feasibility Study and the Urban Design and Architecture Study.
The city has been repairing the buildings, the main promenades have been refurbished, and an international architectural competition for all outer public spaces is underway. For this year, the city is planning to refurbish the former neo-renaissance slaughterhouse/meat auction building, for which a building permit has already been issued. Some unused parts of the compound have been made accessible and rented to new operators. The compound hosts a wide range of public social and cultural events as well as seasonal markets.
