Prague’s Road Authority (TSK) is about to complete the first stage of repairs of Barrandov Bridge. The project started in September 2020 and its completion is planned for November 18, 2021, although it was originally expected to be completed by the end of 2021. It included comprehensive repairs of the substructure above and below the surface of river Vltava. The first stage did not negatively affect road traffic, as concrete works on the abutments were carried out during short closures of a single lane at the weekends and in the summer months, while other construction operations were carried out from the river.
The second stage of the repairs will focus on the load-bearing superstructure of Barrandov Bridge, including the Strakonická Street on-ramp/off-ramp and the K Barrandovu on-ramp/off-ramp. TSK has completed preparations of the project documentation and initiated a public tender on 10 November 2021 to find a contractor for repairs of the Barrandov Bridge superstructure under the terms of a standard FIDIC contract template.
The total estimated value of the public contract is CZK 547 million. Bids shall be submitted by 20 December 2021 and a contract with the supplier is expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2022.
Upon completion of certain stages of the project, the construction activity will be interrupted for a winter break and traffic on the bridge will resume in full. The project is to be carried out between 2022 and 2026, which includes one construction season as a reserve for coordination of traffic closures with the construction of new Dvorce Bridge. The contracting authority expects the works to be temporarily halted after the completion of the second stage in 2023.
