On 19 March 2025, the municipal company Technologie hlavního města Prahy, a.s. (THMP) officially launched 50 new charging stations for electric vehicles. These stations, located in residential areas of Prague 6, Prague 10, Prague 11, Prague 12 and Prague 14, aim to simplify access to charging for residents of these locations.
Part of a wider plan
The new charging stations are part of the capital's wider plan to promote public charging services. THMP plans to continue to expand the network of charging stations in the future and make them more accessible to EV users across the capital.
"We have a long-standing commitment to making charging infrastructure more accessible. We are pleased that thanks to our investments and the development of the electromobility infrastructure, Prague is becoming increasingly profiled as a city that supports the development of this form of transport," said Prague City Councillor for Infrastructure Michal Hroza.
Large-scale project
"The aim of this project is to build a total of 154 new charging stations over the next two years. Today we are handing over Phase I, which represents 50 units in five city districts. The estimated cost is around CZK 15 million, with a large part of the investment to be co-funded by the Transport 2021-2027 (OPD3) subsidy programme," explained Michal Fišer, a member of THMP's Board of Directors. The modern charging stations meet the new AFIR conditions according to European legislation. THMP is the operator of its own network of charging stations and also provides the electricity supply to these stations. “In view of the growth of electric vehicles, emphasis is placed on ensuring that residents have a charging station within walking distance, which will ensure accessibility for all those who have purchased or are considering an electric vehicle,” said Jiří Zajac, Mayor of Prague 14.
Expanding coverage
The new THMP charging stations are located in various locations throughout Prague, specifically in Černý Most, Háje, Vršovice, Vinohrady, Kamýk and Petřiny. Residents of these areas now have access to modern charging stations.
Technologie hlavního města Prahy, a.s. (THMP) provides operation and development of public lighting, traffic lights and other technological systems in Prague. The company takes care of more than 140,000 light points, 1,755 traffic lights and 17,000 lighting columns.
THMP started building a network of public charging stations primarily for the citizens of the capital in 2020 and is still expanding it. In order to offer the widest possible coverage to the citizens of Prague, it has entered into an agreement with the Prague Energy Company and included the PRE POINT charging point network in its network. THMP customers will also be able to recharge in this network at prices guaranteed by THMP.
Supporting electromobility in Prague
Prague supports electromobility through subsidy programmes, building charging infrastructure and benefits for owners of electric cars. The city offers subsidies for individuals and companies to purchase electric cars and install charging stations, is actively expanding the network of public charging stations, and electric car owners in Prague are entitled to free parking in paid parking zones.
Currently, there are a total of 708 public charging stations available in Prague from various providers, with 1,215 charging points and a total capacity of 37.87 MW.
