Dolní Měcholupy plans school expansion

1/13/2025

Dolní Měcholupy Town Hall is planning to expand the Kutnohorská Primary School in response to the growing number of residents and increased demand for educational capacity. The project is divided into two phases with an estimated cost of CZK 54 million excluding VAT. The district has received a CZK 4 million subsidy from the municipality for the preparation of the project and is asking for another CZK 20 million for the first phase.

After the two phases, the school's capacity will increase from 210 to 240-260 pupils, which will meet the needs of the borough with approximately 4,100 inhabitants. The first phase will see the construction of a two-storey extension with classrooms to replace the current ground-floor building, which is used as an art classroom. In the second phase, the middle wing of the school will be raised by one floor to replace the existing attic. Here there will be new classrooms, an assembly room and a rest area for pupils. This phase is scheduled for completion in 2026.

In addition to the expansion of the Kutnohorská school, the town hall plans to build a new school in Kardausova Street. This project includes 18 primary school classes, 4 kindergarten classes, a school library and public sports facilities. The 2020 architectural competition, which attracted 53 teams, shows the great interest of the professional community. These steps are part of a strategy aimed at expanding educational capacity in Prague. For example, a school for 450 children was recently opened in Šeberov at a cost of half a billion crowns.

The modernisation and expansion of schools in Dolní Měcholupy will contribute to quality education for the area's growing young generation.
