Prague Development Authority (IPR) celebrates international success. Its Soutok suburban park project won a major award at the WMNP Awards in Birmingham, UK, where it came out on top in a strong international competition of seven finalists.
The project covers an area of 1,300 hectares at the confluence of the Berounka and Vltava rivers, spread over five urban districts and the town of Černošice. IPR comes up with an innovative solution that combines two key aspects: the use of art to interpret the landscape and the creation of a suburban park as a tool to mitigate the effects of climate change.
One part of the project focuses on the current problem of human alienation from nature, known as "nature deficit-disorder", which has negative effects especially on children's health. The aim is to use art to create a deeper connection between visitors and nature.
The WMNP Awards are presented by the prestigious think-tank at the University of Birmingham, which researches and supports innovative landscape projects around the world.
