At their today’s meeting, newly elected city councilors supported a social housing construction project. Prague will now call a tender for the refurbishment of the premises of the abandoned former nurses’ dormitory at Bulovka hospital. Twelve new apartments are to be built to become home to a wide range of tenants, from individuals to larger families.
The city has long been using a whole range of tools to support social inclusion and to fight poverty. “One of the key issues in Prague is to improve the availability of housing for people with disabilities or families in an unfavorable social situation or otherwise socially disadvantaged citizens. The conversion of an unused building is therefore completely in line with the city’s social policy and will increase the availability of a specific type of housing in the area,” explains city councilor Adam Zábranský who is responsible for the municipal asset management agenda.
The costs for the construction of the apartments, whose floor area ranges from 21 to almost 50 square meters, are estimated at 22.6 million crowns. Almost 80% of the construction is to be financed through the Operational Programme Prague – Growth Pole of the Czech Republic, with the rest covered from Prague’s budget.
