Prague is expected to acquire the remaining key plots of land on Vidoule in the coming months to build an outdoor leisure and sports facility. The city will exchange the land for other parcels in Vysočany, Stodůlku, and Střížkov districts. Prague 5 inhabitants can look forward to a new park, paths, outdoor sports facilities and playgrounds. The exchange of land is subject to approval by the City Assembly.
An agreement with the land owner is an important step in Prague's plan to build a new public leisure and sports facility. The City had previously acquired most of the land on Vidoule. “The asset swap will complete our effort to acquire the necessary land on Vidoule Hill. Nothing will stand in the way for us to build new public parks, sports facilities, playgrounds and paths,” says Jan Chabr, City Councilor who oversees Prague’s municipal asset management.
Prague has been striving to acquire the land for years to be able to build a sports and leisure facility there. An exchange of parcels was one of the last options for the city to prevent commercial development in the area. “The city administration will hand over to B+3 Real plots of land surrounded by parcels already owned by the company where it was not feasible for Prague to build anything. In addition, the agreement will end a protracted litigation. The city will also receive a compensation of 105 million CZK,” adds Councilor Chabr.
Prague intends to acquire the land and lend part of it to Prague 5 district administration that will manage it and revitalize the area to improve the living conditions for its citizens. The focus will be on sport activities. Prague 5 had previously created a project called “Table Top Mountain - Vidoule Hill” which envisages an educational trail, a running track, a skating track, a kite field, a rest zone, and natural playgrounds.
