Nusle Bridge has been spanning the Nusle Valley for 50 years, connecting Pankrác with Karlov and the city centre. The bridge opened on 22 February 1973 and won the Building of the Century award in the Traffic Infrastructure category in 2000. The bridge is part of the North-South Inner-City Motorway with an average of 70,000 cars crossing it every day. The reinforced concrete frame structure on four pillars is 485 meters long, 26.5 meters wide and reaches an average height of 42.5 meters above the Nusle Valley. Underground line C, which was launched a year later, on 9 May 1974, leads inside the bridge’s trapezoidal tube with a height of 6.5 meters and wall thickness ranging from 30 to 110 centimeters.
The bridge, which was originally named after the first communist president Klement Gottwald for political reasons, was renamed to Nusle Bridge in 1990.
