The Prague City Council has discussed a draft amendment to the Prague Building Code, which regulate the system of parking spaces in new and refurbished residential and administrative buildings that require a building permit. In the wider city center, the previously required minimum number of parking spaces may be abolished and the actual number of parking spaces would be up to the investor to decide. This would pave the way to lower prices of new and refurbished housing. The amendment regulates parking spaces in buildings throughout the capital city. The proposal will now be sent out for comments, which the Council has recommended to be no longer than 45 days. It will be up to the new City Council to decide whether the amendment will take effect or not.

The required number of parking spaces for new buildings and major refurbishment projects was calculated at the time of the creation of the Prague Building Code in 2014-2015 and has not been updated since. Now, after more than seven years, it is necessary to adjust some parameters based on feedback from experts, investors, and trends in the society.
