Refurbishment of Charles Square continues A detailed management plan to be drawn up for the square

Prague Councilors have approved another step to transform Charles Square. The design will be subject to minor adjustments, a project committee will be established, and a comprehensive management plan for the square is being drawn up. A joint team of German landscaping studio Rehwaldt Landschaftsarchitekten, BY Architects and transport infrastructure planning studio PD Filip was announced as the winner of the co-called selection procedure with a competitive dialogue last year. The selection procedure was managed by the Prague Planning and Development Institute (IPR).

The selection procedure with a competitive dialogue was announced back in 2016. This type of public tender allows for end-to-end involvement of all stakeholders in the development of the design. The jury selected five teams that worked together with all stakeholders (such as Prague 2 district administration, the city's Monument Conservation Department, the National Heritage Institute) to draw up designs to transform the park. AT the end of last year, the jury announced the winning team comprising German landscaping studio Rehwaldt Landschaftsarchitekten, BY Architects and PD Filip.

Upon completion of project documentation, the park will be completely refurbished in 2025. A long-term vision until 2048 (which will be the 700th anniversary of Charles Square) envisages staged elimination of traffic in the eastern part of the square to eventually create a pedestrian-only promenade.
