The City of Prague has received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for the design of public litter bins. The bins are part of a comprehensive set of street furniture. The street furniture design emerged as the winner of a design contest held by Prague Planning and Development Institute in 2017. Out of the set including a bench, public litter bins and a bicycle stand, two types of litter bins have been awarded- a hanging bin and a self-standing bin. The authors of the winning design are Michal Froněk, Jan Němeček, and Aleš Kachlík. The street furniture including the award-winning litter bins has been installed in Stromovka park, on Petřín Hill, in Strossmayerovo Square and other locations around the city.
“Even such small details as public litter bins make a functional and beautiful city. That is why I am happy that we can furnish our city with internationally-acclaimed furniture,”says Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib.
“The aim is to have a single but versatile set of street furniture that will give Prague a more consistent and prestigious look. For me, the award for the litter bins confirms that we have been pursuing the right direction in refining our city,”explains City Councilor Jan Chabr who is responsible for municipal property management.
