Available Cooperative Housing project supported by City of Prague is ready for implementation.

4/26/2022

An expert team led by City Councilor Hana Kordová Marvanová who is responsible for the Council’s legal and and housing support affairs, have drafted the terms for a public contract called Partner for the DDB project - Radlická (Smíchov). This should be approved by the City Assembly in May. A partner will subsequently be selected in a regular selection procedure, with which Prague will establish a housing cooperative. The cooperative will then accept Prague citizens as members. The project will enjoy a range of benefits, including provision of land by the City of Prague, which will make cooperative homes cheaper by about 25-30% as compared to standard market prices, and therefore more affordable.

The idea of the Available Cooperative Housing project with the participation of the City of Prague was approved by the City Council in December 2020. Suitable locations for new construction were subsequently identified, including plots of land in Radlická Street in Prague 5 and Oistrachov Street in Prague 13, which are owned by the City of Prague. At the end of the last year, the City of Prague and Prague 5 district signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the Radlická project. The project envisages the construction of approximately 260 apartments, of which 85 or so will be available to the city to provide housing to key professionals (such as teachers, paramedics, firefighters, etc.), and about 175 apartments will be assigned for Prague citizens who are unable to purchase their own homes. A Memorandum of Cooperation with Prague 13 district is also ready for approval. Other city districts, namely Prague 12 and Prague 10, have also expressed interest in the cooperative construction with the participation of the city.
