Prague has been fighting illegal graffiti on many fronts. Last summer, it deployed one of the municipal companies – the Prague Technology Company (THMP) - to the battle. The company uses its own application “Without Graffiti” to receive notifications of tags and images which it removes and applies anti-graffiti coating to the cleaned surfaces. The app enables citizens to report graffiti in a few clicks. Over the first six months, people have submitted nearly 300 reports.
People sent in a total of 280 reports through the app in the first six months after its launch. More than forty of those reports concerned city-owned property and the same number were buildings managed by city districts. In the former case, THMP takes care of removing the graffiti, while in the latter, it forwards the report to a responsible person at the local authority to deal with it.
Since the beginning of summer, THMP has cleaned up about 20 city-owned buildings, i.e., about a half of the reported incidents, most of which appeared on buildings in Prague’s conservation area. Damaged facades were repaired, and anti-graffiti coating was applied, thanks to which any future creations will disappear immediately.
