Neglected area under Prague’s inner-city trunk road to be redesigned.

The U Bulhara intersection under Prague’s inner-city trunk road is a neglected location that many Prague citizens, including both drivers and pedestrians, consider unsatisfactory. That is why the city has decided to improve the place and give it a new function. The low-threshold center Naděje will continue operating in its current premises, which will be redesigned, and a new open-space gallery will be established in the location. At the same time, access between the New Town and Žižkov district will improve for cyclists and pedestrians.

Areas below a raised highway are typically difficult to manage, create security issues, and their potential often remains untapped. In recent years, however, Prague has been making effort to find a meaningful purpose for such locations. For instance, a bike depot for parcel delivery services was built under the trunk road at Florenc Intersection. Part of the area under the Bulhar Intersection has long been occupied low-threshold center Naděje, but other parts of the area have been abandoned or used as a parking lot. That should now change.

Prague has decided to implement short- and medium-term measures to improve the unsatisfactory condition and create a better and safer link between the city center and Žižkov district.
