Prague’s City Council has agreed to hold an international architectural and landscaping competition for a new design of open spaces in the Prague Market. The entries will be judged by a jury of both Czech and international experts. Competitors will be expected to present designs of open spaces between the market halls, entrances to the premises, greenery and utilization of rainwater, mobile vendor stalls, rest areas with benches, and other furniture and features to create a pleasant experience for visitors.

The aim pf the competition is to refine the open and non-shopping spaces on the premises. The open spaces between the market halls are currently in deplorable condition, as is the disparate street furniture. The city expects the designers to employ the latest approaches to urban landscaping that take into consideration both the current and future needs associated with the climate change. That is why the task includes greenery and rainwater management. The city is also asking for designs to be friendly towards all age and income groups.

The competition will be organized by CCEA MOBA, a platform specializing in architectural competitions in the Czech Republic and Central Europe. The platform was established by non-profit Center for Central European Architecture and MOBA Architects.
