Prague to exempt restaurants from fees for outdoor seating until end of March

1/11/2021

Prague will exempt restaurants from paying fees for outdoor seating areas until the end of March this year. The decision is part of the city’s efforts to support entrepreneurs during the coronavirus crisis. Restaurants have not paid any fee for outdoor seating since April last year, similar to street vendors. Entrepreneurs in Prague and elsewhere have found themselves in an extremely difficult situation due to the coronavirus crisis and related restrictions imposed by the government. Last year, Prague supported entrepreneurs in multiple ways, for instance by its COVID Praha program, aid for the cultural industry, lowering or postponing rent payments in city-owned buildings, as well as by waiving fees for the use of public space and installation of outdoor seating. The city has now moved to refrain from charging the outdoor seating fee until the end of March. The authorities are yet to discuss payments in the following period.
