Prague City Council has approved a complicated property swap in order to acquire plots of land in Opatov district needed to build a P+R parking lot for 400 to 600 cars. The swap will also make it possible to revitalize and develop the area.

“Prague is going to settle with the owners of 35 plots of land in a highly fragmented area that resulted from property returns. The transaction will create larger chunks of land for future construction of a municipal center as envisaged in the zoning plan. At the same time, it will make it possible to combine plots of land to create a single one owned by Prague outside the residential care home to build a P+R parking lot,” explains City Councilor Jan Chabr who is responsible for municipal asset management.

A zoning decision for the P+R parking lot in Opatov came into effect on 20 February 2020. Until last year, there used to be a ground P+R parking for 181 cars. However, most of its area spanned privately owned land, which is why it was eventually discontinued.

The transaction is yet to be approved by the Prague City Assembly.
